Stockflow: every steel coil tracked from arrival to dispatch
Anav Infra Steel needed one place to follow every coil from the moment it arrives to the moment it ships: how it was cut, what was set aside for which order, what was wasted and what was dispatched. We built Stockflow, customised for Anav Infra Steel, to do exactly that, in metric tonnes, across raw, in-process and finished stock.
What was getting in the way.
In coil processing, the hard question is never how much steel is in the godown. It is how much of it is free to promise.
Tally showed what had been received, not what had since been cut, reserved or scrapped.
Working out cut lengths and slit widths with the least waste took time and experience.
Stock promised to one customer could be offered to another, because nothing recorded the promise.
Scrap was known as a total, not by coil, batch or order.
Process first, then software.
Understand
We followed a coil through the business: arrival from Tally, cutting at a job-work unit, reservation for an order, and dispatch against a sale bill.
Analyse
One rule shaped everything: every quantity has to balance. What goes into a cut must equal what comes out plus what is wasted, and an order can only be served from stock that is genuinely available.
Re-engineer and build
We built on Stockflow, shaped the data around this process and shipped in weekly releases on the client’s own server.
The platform, role by role.
Stock in
- Upload the Tally stock export; names like "CR Coil 1.20X1250 (D513)" are read into material, thickness, width and grade
- Godowns mapped to cutters automatically, with new specs created as they appear
- Rows with unknown grades, duplicate batches or bad quantities returned for review, never silently skipped
Planning and processing
- Cut-to-length nesting that tests every length from 1200 to 2600 mm and rejects plans above 3% wastage
- Slitting plans that allow for edge trim and the gap between slits, with the best three offered
- Each plan downloadable as a CSV or a one-page PDF drawing
- A cut cannot be saved unless outputs plus wastage equal the quantity consumed, to within 1 kg
Orders and dispatch
- Stock matched by material, thickness and equal-or-better grade, finished goods first
- Allocations reserved in place, or moved from raw into processing with their origin remembered
- Partial dispatches against sale bills, with anything shipped above plan recorded separately
- Order status recalculated automatically, from Pending to Dispatched
What changed.
- One answer to "what can we promise?": available equals total minus reserved, on every line
- Every cutting plan checked against a wastage limit before it is used
- Scrap recorded against the batch it came from, and reported line by line
- Tally stays the record of receipts, with no double entry
Imports Tally stock exports (CSV or Excel). Exports stock by stage, orders and wastage to CSV.
